Avant-Garden Birthday

Have you ever had a card that you pictured in your head or drew a sketch of it and then it turns out completely different?  Well, this card is one of those cards for me.  My inspiration for the card was a beautiful floral canvas print that I saw at a local showroom.  It took my breath away.

Inspiration for my card

The colors of this card are some of my favorite ones at the moment... maybe because I'm surrounded by similar hues everyday as I look out into my backyard.  Another inspiration was a current DSP that is floating all over Pinterest.  But I really only use DSP when the urge fancies me I guess you would say.  I like to create my own backgrounds for my cards.

So here's the card.  Let me know if you can guess the DSP inspiration!

Birthday card for one of my many aunts through my hubby.

Have you guessed the DSP, yet?!  Here's a hint... it's a 6x6 designer stack of paper.  I think I did a pretty good job of recreating it with one of the stamps from an entirely different stamp set...  but guess what?!  It was not supposed to look this... it was originally stamped horizontally to resemble the floral print, but I couldn't get it just right.  So I stepped away, squinted and then turned it 90° and then decided it needed a 180° turn.  My ah-ha moment struck when I saw distressed wood!

I fussy cut the beautiful flowers which I think resemble Alstroemeria.  And did my first ever fancy linen thread bow thanks to Billie Moan.  She's a southern gal like me so I love following her blog, Rambling Rose Studio.

Since my background cardstock was Very Vanilla, I did not quite get the color of the flowers that I envisioned  They were pictured as white flowers with green throats and since I did not want to go find my white ink, I went for yellow with pink throats.

I am very pleased with this creation, but look forward to trying it on Whisper White to see what truer colors of alstroemeria I can create PLUS I am not giving up on creating another card from my inspiration picture.

Until next time, happy inky fingers!
